HOKUAOKA'ALE EMMA GILMAN
Hokuaoka’ale Emma Gilman, is a nineteen-year-old working in conservation with the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project. In her free time, she
volunteers to propagate and plant endemic and native Hawaiian plants with the Auwahi Forest Restoration Project. Her passion for conservation and protecting her ancestors (the land), roots from her connection to her culture as a native Hawaiian woman speaking fluent Hawaiian since the age of three. Her life mission is to inspire native and indigenous peoples worldwide to immerse themselves in their cultures and protect their endemic species. Hokua is born and raised on Maui and graduated from King Kekaulike High School.
